Devblog - About mind control mechanics

Hello everyone! This is going to be our first devlog, just to give you a glimpse of what we have planned for Crossworlds!

There are a few things that people have been asking, others that might not be clear enough in-game, and others that are upcoming features.

Let's start with the spiciest of them; Mind control!

Mockup UI screen for mind control.

TL;DR: You have a stat named control, it works as a 'relationship' stat, and you can use it to make permanent changes to characters too. You can skip to the bottom to see what changes.

So, first of all, we need to say that your mind control (MC) is unrelated to your mana: This does not define your power level and only indicates how much magic you can do during a quest; in other words, it represents your magical stamina.

So, with that said, how does MC actually work? The main mechanic for it will be something named "Control," which functions effectively as a mix of "relationship" and "corruption."

When you get your new powers, you'll be able to increase 'control' passively with your interactions: If you hang out with someone, work with them, or go on a quest, all of these actions will increase your control stat.

Control has two uses, one being passive and the other being proactive.

The passive element functions as a "relationship" stat; the higher it is, the closer you are with them, and more interactions will unlock.

But you can also use "control" as a resource that you can spend in multiple ways, but the two common ones would be to either make them act "out of character" (do things they wouldn't otherwise do) and to make permanent changes on their personalities.

Acting out of character is just pushing their limits to their next level temporarily; If they would usually only allow you to kiss them, you could use this to persuade them to do oral things, and so on.

PERMANENT CHANGES

A UI like the one shown above would be used to do these changes, and they are divided into three categories.

CORE PERSONALITY

Every character has the same three core personality traits: relationshipinhibition, and libido.

'Relationship' is how they relate to you and can go from acquaintance, sex friend, partner, or even sex slave. You can spend control on upgrading (or downgrading) these, which will change your interactions with them.

'Inhibition' will only change how much shame they feel and will allow you to change how their dress and how much risky stuff they are willing to do, up to the point that they become eager exhibitionists.

'Libido' is how lustful they can be; it makes it easier to engage in sex with them, but you can also increase it a lot, to the point of making them nymphos looking for sex everywhere.

PATTERNS

Patterns are the set of distinctive traits that a character has, making them more unique and exciting.

Examples of this could be Dominant personalityAddiction, or even odd ones like sapiosexual.

With your MC powers, you'll be able to manipulate and influence them, turning a dominant character into a submissive one, increasing how much of a junkie someone is, or turning a sapiosexual into a frivolous, sex-crazed bimbo.

Some patterns are more subtle and will only open up new scenes/content instead of entirely changing a character.

TRIGGERS

Triggers will help you interact with characters, making it easier to make them do what you want (aka, it reduces the control points required for scenes), and also sometimes will give you special choices too, both during regular interactions and during quests.

These are the simplest changes you can make, so they are not that powerful but definitely fun!

With this said, I think this covers the basics of what we have planned for mind control. To keep it simple, we probably will not add this mechanic to all characters right away but slowly roll it out, making sure to give proper love to the character selected each month.

It must be said, patrons will have a chance to vote on which character will be selected, and your support will help us produce all the content needed for this quicker, so if you liked the game so far, check it out next month and if you like what we are doing, think about supporting us! Every bit helps!

Reminds me alot of NCP's Superpowered Mind Control screen, which is frankly one of my favorite aspects of that game. Excited to see yours work.

Yeah, we kinda got inspired by it! Although we will take a different approach to gameplay

It certainly sounds interesting, hopefully implementation will be fully successful. Glad to hear you're planning on taking your time for each character to try and ensure just that. I really enjoyed the first part and hope it continues in the same trend. Keep it up!
